Staying Safe On Drilling RigsThe key to working safe is preparation.
Understanding the dangers involved in each operation on the drilling rig is essential to keeping everyone healthy.From the smallest 1 man job to working together tripping pipe or running casing,dangers are always present.With new Hands starting out in the oilfield everyday it is important that we hold the safety meetings and not just record them as being held on the IADC book.
Safety meetings can be brief, just lasting a few minutes, or detailed, taking more time. Safety meetings can be as technical as shutting down the entire operation to discuss, or as simple as printing one of these below and having each hand read it.
Many great safety alerts can be found at other sites like the IADC then printed and posted on the doghouse wall. As a driller, there is no excuse for not holding several safety meetings weekly.It's your crew-Keep them safe!
