EOG Resources News

EOG was originally the exploration and production segment of Enron. It separated from its parent company in 1999 and was independent for several years before Enron became caught up in its accounting scandal and was forced into filing for bankruptcy.Although the Barnett Shale is EOG's cornerstone, it is actively exploring other areas. The first part of this strategy is an expansion of its shale gas play in the Barnett to include oil assets in the area. EOG calls this the Barnett Combo play. The company drilled 22 horizontal wells there in 2008, focusing on determining the extent of the play and what completion technology will be required.
It is difficult at this point in the development to estimate reserves in the Barnett Combo play, but the company reported 200 mmboe (million barrels of oil equivalent) of potential reserves.
