Making A Connection
Drilling Rig Basics...
The most basic duty of the Roughneck is making the connection.When a joint of drill pipe is drilled down to the kelly bushings,the kelly is picked up and another joint added to continue drilling down.This occurs over and over 24 hours a day in the Roughnecks routine and often happens every few minutes in the early stages of the well. Here is a video of a connection being made. Notice the Hands hard at work keeping this rig cleaned and maintained while drilling.Thats the mark of a good Driller with a great crew that takes pride in their rig.
